“It is at the end of life, not only at the beginning, that Christians are most different from the rest of the world.” (Sinclair Ferguson)
Age is something we cannot avoid nor deny. Unfortunately the world – and our hearts – tell us ‘age’ is something to be despised, but the Word of God tells us otherwise!
About the book
This book uses biblical passages like Psalm 92 and biblical examples like Anna, Elizabeth and Naomi to understand what it means to age with grace. Sharon and Susan, who are in their late 70s and early 80s, provide wisdom and perspective on the trials of aging and the God given purpose behind it.
The authors do an excellent job of uncovering the ‘uglier’ emotions that come with aging like loss of what once was, feelings of uselessness, facing physical restrictions, being envious of those more able, and battling anger at depleting health. I loved their exhortation for older women to be life givers rather than life takers, with the ultimate aim of glorifying God.
If you are looking to encourage an older woman in your life – whom you see aging with grace – this is a wonderful book to get! I personally bought and gifted this book to a couple women I look up to and admire. If you yourself need some encouragement and a change in perspective in your journey of aging I encourage you to read this book! The world wants you to feel forgotten and neglected but God sees you and knows you – this book will remind you of how powerful His love is for you!
A QUOTE AND A QUESTION
“Often when a woman retires from her vocation or after her children leave the home she feels useless because her purpose was centered on what she was doing rather than what she was becoming. The calling to glorify God transcends place, time, circumstance, and age…when our prayer is that his love for us will increasingly compel us to stop living for ourselves and to live for his glory, we will age with grace.” p.39
- How can you “age with grace” in the anti-aging culture you live in right now?
